What we collect. For group organizers: your name and email. For members: the name you register with, your email, optional pronouns, your reminder preference, and, most important, your answers to your group's monthly questions. For gifts: the giver's email, the name of the person it's for, an optional note, and the recipient's email if the giver asked us to send it.
What it's for. One thing: making your group's monthly Patchwork. Your answers appear only in your own group's digest. Each issue goes to the group's members and to the group's organizer, even if the organizer hasn't joined as a member. We don't sell data, run ads, or share your words with anyone outside your group.
Who reads an issue before it goes out. Patchwork drafts each issue automatically, and a small number of Patchwork staff read every issue before it goes out, to check its quality and fix mistakes. They don't share what they read.
Consent. You join only by registering yourself and agreeing to this policy and the terms, and your answers appear only while that consent stands. Every email we send members includes a personal link to change your reminders or leave the group. No login, no phone call, no guilt trip.
If you leave. We stop emailing you and nothing new is shared. Answers you gave in past issues remain part of those issues, like photos in an album that already went out.
History. Past cycles, answers, and digests are kept as your group's permanent history. We never bulk-delete a group's memories.
Who helps us run this. A short list of standard services: Railway (hosting), Resend (email delivery), Anthropic (drafting the digest text; your answers are processed to write it, not used to train anything), and Stripe (payments, for organizers and gift givers only). Each sees only what it needs to do its job.
Security. Personal links use long codes nobody can guess, organizer sign-in needs no password, and secrets are kept in a proper vault, not in spreadsheets.
